Almost every baby at some point during their days of having to wear a diaper will develop a diaper rash. Some babies seem to have a more sensitive skin type that will cause them to repeatedly have problems with this pesky rash. Most parents end up feeling guilty when their little one ends up with a diaper rash. We do not ever want this to happen to our baby, but when it does we always want to be able to clear the diaper rash up as quickly as possible. There are many different remedies out there that people say will work. One of these remedies would be cornstarch for diaper rashes.
There are many doctors that do not recommend using cornstarch. If you are considering using cornstarch for diaper rashes, you must first make sure that your child’s diaper rash is not caused by a yeast infection. It usually is very hard to determine if the diaper rash is indeed caused by yeast or is just mainly irritated skin due to the diaper. Most of the time the different diaper rashes look about the same. Cornstarch will not help a yeast infection diaper rash but actually cause the yeast to grow and make the rash much worse and irritated.
There is also other problems with using cornstarch for diaper rashes. One of these problems would be if your child has any kind of breathing problems, there is the chance that the powder could be inhaled into their lungs and cause problems. In this case it would be better to not use cornstarch but instead find a different treatment for your baby’s diaper rash.
Cornstarch can help to keep your baby’s diaper rash from coming back once you have cured it. It will help keep the area a little more dry. Some people also use a combination of cornstarch along with talc to help with the prevention of the diaper rashes. It is always best to ask your child’s doctor before deciding on any kind of treatment.
