Diaper rash is a very common ailment in infants. It can be caused by a variety of things or seemingly for no reason at all. Some of the most common causes of diaper rash are food changes, climate changes, laundry detergents, soap, diaper brands and remaining wet or soiled over a prolonged period of time.
Diaper Rash In Babies
Babies have very sensitive skin and it does not take much to disrupt the delicate balance of their systems. If you have been trying a variety of different foods try eliminating some until you find the culprit. Try changing to an all-natural laundry detergent. There are many baby soaps that are full of chemicals or fragrances that can irritate baby’s sensitive skin trying using an all-natural soap.

Check your diaper brand. All diapers are not created equal and it may be that you have landed on a brand that is particularly irritating to your little one. It is very important that a baby’s diaper is changed on a regular basis. When a diaper is soiled it should be changed immediately. Do not allow a baby’s diaper to become overly damp this will cause the skin irritation which leads to diaper rash.
It is important to recognize the early signs of diaper rash and start treatment right away. They can go from bad to worse very quickly. Moving from red and irritated skin to open bleeding sores in a matter of hours. Red, chapped or irritated looking skin is a good indication that you are headed for a diaper rash.

Make sure that you choose a diaper powder or ointment for your specific need. Diaper powders should not contain fragrance. Powders are used to keep babies dry so if your baby’s skin seems overly wet this is a good choice. If on the other hand your baby’s skin seems chapped or has open sores choose an ointment. Make sure your ointment is also fragrance and additive free.
Even the best parents have to deal with diaper rash sometimes so don’t beat yourself up about it just take the necessary steps to keep a healthy baby bottom!
